摘要

Carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) laminates are widely used in many industries because of the superior specific stiffness, strength and fatigue property. However, compressive strength of a CFRP laminate is much lower than the tensile strength. For example, compressive strength of a unidirectional CFRP laminate is about 50 to 60% of the tensile strength. Since a beam structure in an aircraft carries bending moment, the compression side may fail prior to the tensile side. Therefore, compressive strength is a critical design issue. If the compressive strength of a CFRP laminate increases, further light weighting of the CFRP structure can be realized.
