摘要

Saccadic adaptation is usually studied with the double-step paradigm: a target appears in one location, but is displaced to another location after an interstep interval which is either constant (cISI) or saccade-triggered (tISI). Here we report that the direction of targeting saccades adapts equally well, and shows similar aftereffects, with cISI = 200 ms and with tISI. We therefore found no support for the view that cISI facilitates awareness of the second step and thus encourages cognitive strategies rather than adaptive recalibration. We further report that eye-to-arm transfer of adaptation was more pronounced with cISI than with tISI (second step triggered by arm), which suggests that adaptation might be specific to the timing of targets. We conclude that it might be preferable to use cISI rather than tISI in adaptation research.
