Development of hand-held piping vibration analyzer to assess vibration severity

摘要

Assessment of vibration severity is indispensable to avoid fatigue damage in piping. A conventional method taken is to evaluate vibration by preset criteria for vibration amplitude vs. frequency like a Goodmann chart. Such a simplified approach cannot reflect the differing nature of every vibration problem and resonant piping system since criteria are empirical and statistical in nature. Taking measures consequently or not may be unnecessary or cause damage. The onset of fatigue damage is governed by stress level and cycles so that assessment has to be carried out by them. From this fact a simple hand-held vibration analyzer "Pipe Vibro-Checker" has been developed to assess vibration severity by measuring vibration frequency and relative displacement which directly correlates to stress level.
