Following several fundamental/historical steps of the two-stroke cycle, airless fuel injection, welded construction, turbocharging, heavy fuel oil and 'super-long-stroke', common-rail injection is now realised with the Sulzer RT-flex engine, which gives better part-load combustion, optimized fuel consumption together with low exhaust emissions and greater flexibility in operation such as much better 'slow-steaming' capability by applying fully electronic control of all engine processes.
