Failure analysis of ship equipment by using SRIC information

The Committee for Ship Reliability Investigation had been constructing a database system (SRIC Database System) for the improvement in ship reliability. This database system has never been carried out in other countries. The present system has just become a useful system including over 114000 field data about the failures and alarms of ship equipment failures. SRIC plays a very important role both in the field of study and the field of practical use. And, it become clear that the average failure rate of the whole of ship equipment is 7.246 [case/1 000 h] and the average work for repair is 5.0 [man·h] through the statistical analysis on SRIC. In the frequent occurrence failures, the failures of F.O. purifier and L.O. purifier are remarkable. The sum total ratio of these two failures is 13.9 [%], but the failure rates of these equipment has a tendency to gradually increase from 1982 to 1998. On the other hand, it is clear that some failure ratios of the electric and electronic equipment are changing with same level or a slow increasing trend. This paper presents the latest results of statistical analysis and the cluster analysis about the frequent occurrence failures of the equipment on the ship by using SRIC information.
