摘要

For 8 days, a 21-year-old man had experienced intermittent episodes of high fever and chills. These episodes lasted about 3 hours and occurred every 2 days. He denied nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, cough, pharyngitis, and rashes. Six months earlier, the patient had moved to the United States from Chiapas, Mexico. His past medical history was unremarkable, and he did not use tobacco, alcohol, or illicit drugs. The patient appeared to be well nourished. He was afebrile. Slight icterus was noted, but there was no lymphadenopathy. Head, ears, eyes, nose, and throat were normal. Results of the chest and abdominal examinations were normal as well. No rash or petechiae were observed on the skin.
