Regarding Tne Ob/gyn hospitalist, Contemporary OB/GYN.net/ obgyn-hospitatist] As a certified nurse midwife (CNM) for more than 25 years I am constantly shocked by the reluctance to fully incorporate us into ob/gyn practices. Nijagal et al showed that when physician laborists and CNMs worked collaboratively together, versus the traditional model, they reduced the likelihood of Cesar-ean section from 31% to 17%. Why is this not now considered best practice in every facility? If this reduction in C-section rate were attributable to a device, or a monitor, every hospital in the United States would be paying big bucks to buy them for their units and advertising them on billboards to attract customers.
