Badlands NGLs (Denver) says it has licensed Univation Technologies' Unipol polyethylene (PE) process for four 600,000-m.t./year production lines, two at a site in North Dakota and two at an unnamed US site. The facilities will produce both linear low-density PE (LLDPE) and high-density PE (HDPE). Privately held Badlands announced plans to build an ethane cracker and downstream PE plants in North Dakota in October 2014. The $4-billion project has been located to take advantage of low-cost ethane feedstock sourced locally from the Bakken Shale formation of the Williston Basin. In September, the company announced a supply agreement with Continental Resources (Oklahoma City), one of the largest leaseholders in the Williston Basin. Badlands also says it has "secured" a second site in the United States.
