The growth of global production of oils & fats in the next three decades is likely to be flat even as consumption is set to rise significantly. Dr. Yusof Basiron, CEO, MPOC, emphasised that palm oil presents security of supply to the global oils & fats industry as opposed to other soft oils. The world needs 6-mt of additional oils & fats every year to meet growing demand, but in 2013, incremental production was just around 2-mt, informed Dr. Basiron.
