From 2003 to 2008, nine new blackcurrant ( Ribes nigrum L.) cultivars were evaluated at the Institute of Horticulture, LRCAF. 'Kriviai' and 'Laimiai' produced a higher yield in the years of cropping. The biggest small fruit was in the cultivar 'Joniniai' and 'Vyciai'. Among investigated cultivars, small fruits of 'Joniniai' and 'Laimiai' had the biggest amount of ascorbic acid. The bigger amounts of anthocyanins accumulate in the small fruits of 'Pilenai', 'Laimiai' and 'Kriviai'. The bigger amounts of soluble solids were found in small fruits of 'Kupoliniai' and 'Laimiai'. 'Ben Alder' accumulated the biggest amount of organic acids. The small fruits of cultivar 'Laimiai' were distinguished for the parameters of chemical composition. Small fruits of 'Kriviai' and 'Almiai' are distinguished for significantly bigger radical scavenging activity. Small fruits of 'Pilenai', 'Kriviai', 'Laimiai' and 'Ben Alder' are distinguished for colour intensity.
