A strong contribution from Latin America boosted Monsanto's seed and trait revenues by 39.3% to $1,351 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2011. Sales for the year ended July 31st 2011 were up by 12.8% to $8,582 million. Monsanto's total sales amounted to $2,247 million and $11,822 million for the fourth quarter and full year, respectively. However, year-on-year comparisons are not yet available because of the need to adjust figures for prior reporting periods related to customer incentive programmes for the herbicide, glyphosate, in fiscal 2009 and 2010. Monsanto is co-operating with a US Securities and Exchange Commission investigation into its reporting of those incentive programmes (Agrow No 619, pp 6-7).
