摘要

The possible transfer of biotechnology traits from genetically modified maize to the grass weed, teosinte, is unlikely to change their relative invasive characteristics under EU conditions, concludes the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). Teosinte is a wild ancestor of maize and is not indigenous to Europe, but its presence has been reported in maize fields in Spain and France. The EFSA was requested by the Commission to evaluate whether the weed’s occurrence would change the previous environmental risk assessment conclusions for cultivating GM maize lines.
