Francois Hollande, the Socialist candidate favored to beat incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy in next year's French presidential elections, says France must undergo an "energy transi- tion" that will gradually phase out "all oil for transport and all nuclear for electricity." In an op-ed in Le Monde, Hollande reiter- ated his long-held position that France needs to drive down nuclear's share of electricity generation from its current 75%-80% to 50% by 2025.
