摘要

Kurdistan will begin trading oil products with Turkey within a month, the minister of natural resources for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Ashti Hawrami, said Monday. The semi-autonomous region of northern Iraq will later trade crude for products if necessary, he told a conference in Erbil -- moves that could amplify recent tensions between the KRG and Iraq's ruling central government in Baghdad. The decision to contravene Baghdad's 2007 request to halt trade across the Kurdistan region's northern border with Turkey is one in a series laying the groundwork for direct oil and gas exports to Turkey that were outlined by Hawarmi over the weekend (IOD Mar.29'12). The plans call for crude pipelines with capacity of at least 1.5 million barrels per day to Turkey, as well as increases to Kurdistan's refining capacity.
