Russian gas giant Gazprom posted a 30% increase in net profits in the second quarter of 2013, surpassing analysts expectations, thanks to a rise in exports to Europe and lower retroactive payments to its customers. Revenues from gas sales to Europe offset a drop in sales in Russia and the former Soviet Union countries, the company said. The decline in exports to Russia's neighbors could lead to a significant loss in future revenue. Ukraine stopped buying Russian gas at the end of last week amid a price row.
