Just two weeks after striking a landmark deal with the US for the world's two biggest polluters to tackle their carbon emissions, China's top climate negotiator has openly questioned Washington's ability to keep its side of the bargain, while analysts say Beijing could struggle to meet its own new target for natural gas usage. Xie Zhenhua, who is also vice director of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), China's top economic planner, told a press conference on Tuesday he was confident China would fulfill its emissions pledge. But he fears political wrangling between the two main parties in the US could put paid to the agreement, which is seen as a precursor to a global pact to be negotiated at the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris late next year.
