Italian contractor Saipem said on Friday evening it had been informed that its client South Stream Transport "is lifting the suspension of work under the contracts, and that Saipem should commence works on the offshore pipeline in the Black Sea." Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said his company began construction earlier that day of the offshore section of the Turk Stream line to Turkey --its preferred project for deliveries to Europe bypassing Ukraine (IOD May11'15). It's reasonably safe to assume that Saipem has, or soon will, become offshore constructor for all, or at least the initial part, of this new offshore Turk Stream route. Why? Because developer South Stream Transport --once a Gazprom-led venture including Eni, EDF and Wintershall --is now 100% Gazprom-owned (IOD Dec.31'14).
