Moscow expects the European Commission to approve state-run natural gas giant Gazprom to utilize the entire capacity of the 36 Bcm/yr Opal pipeline in Germany by the end of this month, Energy Minister Alexander Novak said in an interview with a Russian TV channel aired on Monday. Gazprom is now restricted to use only half of the capacity in the 472-km Opal pipeline, which links its 55 Bcm/yr Nord Stream offshore pipeline with the German-Czech border. Due to the EU's Third Energy Package restrictions requiring third-party access to pipelines, Gazprom cannot fully load Nord Stream-2 capacity, which is now 80% utilized.
