The regional government of India's southern state of Tamil Nadu, the country's sixth most populous state, has promised to block stateowned Gail India's plans to lay a gas pipeline across farmlands if it holds onto power following elections next month. The state government's opposition poses grave risk to expansion of India's gas market, whose growth has been throttled by poor infrastructure, and puts millions of dollars of investment in construction of LNG, power and fertilizer plants in jeopardy.
