Naniing— BASF-YPC, a joint; venture of BASF and Sinopec, announced that the first production facilities in the $1.4-billion expansion of its Nanjing, China, petrochemical complex have now begun operations (PCN, 31 Aug 09, p 1). Production has started in the steam cracker, expanded to 740,000 t/y from 600,000 t/y, as well as in the new butadiene extraction unit and non-ionic surfactants plant, which is part of an integrated ethylene oxide derivatives value chain that also includes a new amines complex. The remainder of the project, involving the expansion of three facilities and construction of 10 new units, is scheduled to come on stream around the end of this year.
