Lagos—Dangote Oil Refining Co. has selected UOP process technology, catalysts, adsorbents and proprietary equipment for a world-scale integrated refinery and petrochemical plant to be built in Lekki, Nigeria (PCN, 30 Mar-6 Apr 2015, p 2). The project, originally planned as a 450,000-b/d refinery with 600,000 t/y of polypropylene (PP) capacity, was revised to involve a 650,000-b/d refinery and approximately 3.6-million t/y of petrochemical capacity—specifically 2-million t/y of PP and 1.6-million t/y of polyethylene, according to several local reports quoting Devakumar Edwin, group executive director of Dangote. Completion is expected in 2017.
