London—Solvav and Ineos on 1 July announced the start-up of their Inovyn joint venture as "a world-class competitive player in chlorovinyls" (PCN, 15 June 2015, p 2). Inovyn, based in London, combines the European polyvinyl chloride (PVC), caustic soda and chlorine derivative activities of both companies, and has 14 production sites. At closing, Solvay received a cash payment of ?150-million, subject to customary adjustments, and transferred an estimated ?260-million in liabilities to Inovyn. In three years, Solvay will exit Inovyn and receive an additional performance-based payment targeted to be ?280-million.
