Mid-infrared absorption in strongly correlated Yb compounds

摘要

The optical conductivity spectra sigma(omega) of intermediate-valence Yb compounds YbAl2, YbCuAl, YbCu2Si2, YbNi2Ge2 and YbInCu4 have been measured. For YbInCu4, sigma(omega) in the infrared region measured on cleaved samples has been found much lower than those previously reported for polished samples. A clear mid-infrared peak in sigma(omega) has been observed for all these compounds. The energy position of the peak systematically varies from 0.1 eV for YbNi2Ge2 to 0.35eV for YbAl2. These results are discussed in terms of the strength of hybridization between the conduction and f electrons in these compounds. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
