On average, the nickel price was higher in October than in the previous month, only the second time thisyear that the nickel price did not register a month-on-month fall. Alloy surcharges for Novemberincreased for austenitic material but this had little effect on buying activity, as there remains a degree ofuncertainty in the market with regards to future demand prospects and to nickel price developments.Moreover, with the year-end approaching rapidly, distributors are focussing more on managing inventorythan on re-stocking. There has been little change in mill lead times, which are currently indicated asbeing into January for standard grades.
