Fourteen pink pigmented facultative methylotrophic bacteria (PPFMB) isolates belonging to Methylobacterium sp. were isolated from phyllosphere of 10 cotton genotypes. Eight isolates oxidized elemental sulfur, while three isolates were able to oxidizeboth elemental sulfur and thiosulfate under in vitro condition. The PPFMB isolated from cotton cv. LRA5166 was found compatible v^ith Azospirillum lipoferum (Az 204), Bacillus megaterium (PSB TNAUl); Bacillus subtilis Nl, Bacillus thuringiensis (HD-73) and Pseudomonas fluorescens pfl under in vitro condition. Application of 75% recommended N and P fertilizers with seed and soil application of microbial consortia, azophosmet and foliar application of PPFMB either at 45 or at 60 DAS recorded 2.3 q of. itional seed cotton than 100% RDF without bioinoculants. PPFMB could be explored as a new bioinoculant for cotton nutrition.
