What do you get when you bring together to New Orleans, over 150 of the worlds leading vaccinologists to focus on the field of DNA vaccinology? One gets a gumbo of provocative data, stimulating debate, and a stew of progress in a variety of preclinical and clinical studies. The investigators who came included both national and international scientists from academia, industry and government to create new partnerships for future studies and to enjoy together the wondrous environment that is New Orleans. Innovations in basic science, as well as clinical development of DNA vaccines, were debated and explored. The presentations focused on specific topics, as well as being highly innovative and provocative. A broad array of potential vaccine and immune therapy targets were discussed which ran the gamut from infectious agents to cancer. Specifically, new developments in HIV, HCV, influenza, HPV immune therapy, melanoma and prostate cancer were just a few of the advanced programs that generated a great deal of excitement and interest.
