摘要

The heritability of human behavioral traits isnow well established, due in large measure to classical twinstudies. We see little need for further studies of the heri-tability of individual traits in behavioral science, but thetwin study is far from having outlived its usefulness. Theexistence of pervasive familial influences on behaviormeans that selection bias is always a concern in any studyof the causal effects of environmental circumstances. Twinsamples continue to provide new opportunities to identifycausal effects with appropriate genetic and shared envi-ronmental controls. We discuss environmental studies ofdiscordant twin pairs and twin studies of genetic and en-vironmental transactions in this context.
