UK-listed independent Serica Energy says it has received a waiver from US sanctions against Iran that will allow it to continue producing gas from the Rhum field in the UK North Sea. Serica - which holds a 50% interest in Rhum alongside Iran Oil Co. (IOC) - said the waiver is valid for at least 16 months (IOD Apr.18’19). IOC is a subsidiary of National Iranian Oil Co. (NIOC). Rhum is the UK’s third-largest offshore gas producer, with output last year of more than 1.5 billion cubic meters. It is part of an exploration license that was originally awarded to a joint venture between BP and Iran in the early 1970s.
