Erbium-doped fiber ring resonator for resonant fiber optical gyro applications

摘要

AbstractThis paper reports a fiber ring resonator with erbium-doped fiber (EDF) for resonant fiber optical gyro (RFOG). To analyze compensation mechanism of the EDF on resonator, a mathematical model of the erbium-doped fiber ring resonator (EDFRR) is established based on Jones matrix to be followed by the design and fabrication of a tunable EDFRR. The performances of the fabricated EDFRR were measured and the experimentalQ-factor of2.47×108and resonant depth of 109% were acquired separately. Compared with the resonator without the EDF, the resonant depth andQ-factor of the proposed device are increased by 2.5 times and 14 times, respectively. A potential optimum shot noise limited resolution of0.042?hcan be obtained for the RFOG, which is promising for low-cost and high precise detection.Highlights?An erbium-doped fiber ring resonator was proposed for resonant fiber optical gyro.?TheQ-factor and resonant depth of resonator can be adjusted freely.?TheδΩof gyro is tunable potentially by optimizing gain coefficient.]]>
