Washington—The United Steelworkers (USW) said it is suing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) over the federal government's decision to "gut" the Chemical Disaster Rule, which is intended to avoid chemical disasters and save lives. The EPA has removed "crucial" provisions of the regulation that supported EPA's Risk Management Program regulations, including requirements that companies take commonsense actions to prevent foreseeable catastrophic incidents.
