Yulin city in China’s magnesiumrich province of Shaanxi is planning to buy magnesium as reserves, as the coronavirus pandemic has driven commodity prices lower, China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association said in a report June 5. Chinese magnesium prices fell from Yuan 14,800/mt ($2,087/mt) in January to Yuan 13,000/mt as of June 5, CNIA said in the report. China’s April national magnesium output stood at 66,400 mt, down 1.8% from March, according to data from State Development and Investment Corp. Meanwhile, the country’s January-April magnesium product exports were 162,500 mt, up just 1.63% year on year, customs data showed.
