DNA samples from four sheep breeds from India (Garole, Deccani, Bannur and Madras Red) were screened by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) to determine the presence of the FecB mutation in these breeds. The Garole breed was the only breed which carried the FecB mutation. The FecB PCR-RFLP test was observed to be fast, accurate and useful as a tool for making breeding decisions..
