A one month old female mongrel puppy was brought to the hospital with history of dullness, anorexia, difficulty in urination and reluctant to move for the past few days. Physical examination revealed abnormal swelling on the left inguinal region, warm to touch, without pain on palpation and visceral mass was palpable. The condition was tentatively diagnosed as inguinal hernia. Pre-operative haematological analysis of the animal was found fit for anaesthesia. Surgery was performed under anesthesia and the condition was confirmed as inguinal hernia with herniation of urinary bladder, intestines and spleen. The hernia was corrected by herniorrhaphy. Post surgically, animal was maintained on systemic antibiotics and periodic wound dressing for the first week and the animal made an uneventful recovery.
