The special section on water in the 10 September 2005 issue of Current Science was informative. Though sporadic references to evapotranspiration exist in some of the articles and an article by Rajamani 3 is exclusively devoted to biological management of water, we shall like to supplement information on water-table management through biodrainage which, in our opinion, deserved an exclusive mention. Biodrainage is the vertical drainage of soil water through evapotran-spiration by vegetation.
