摘要

Atherosclerosis is characterized by chronic inflammation of the arterial wall, mediated by adhesion and secretion of activated platelets, neutrophils and monocytes, as well as T cells and dendritic cells infiltrating the vascular lesion. Investigation of new targets will advance our understanding about cellular dynamics in the pathophysiology of atherosclerosis and will enable development of diagnostic and early therapy approaches for prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease.
