A discrete heterometallic compound consisting of Cu(ii) and Pd(ii) units which mimicks Bovine Cu-ZnSOD has been synthesised in aqueous medium. Its superoxide radical ion scavenging activity is higher than the SOD activity ofScylla serratatissues and comparable with the liver ofGallus domesticus.
