The following article first appeared in the Spring 2004 newsletter of the Bio-Dynamic Association of Northern California. To become a member contact Mark Feickert, P.O. Box 1823, Sevastopol, CA 054/3; (707)823-1877; . What is the role of the animal? What is the animal's work here on Earth and what is the evolving relationship between the human being and the animal? We begin by looking at the animal in relationship to the plant. The plant is stuck in deep sleep, a part of its environment. The animal has freedom through movement. For the animal, the outside world has been "breathed in." The animal lives in a "dreaming" state of consciousness. But that which has been separated - the physical world - needs to be connected again. Through its instincts, the animal reconnects itself to the physical world. The sense of smell is one tool of perception used by the animal to perceive and connect to the physical world.
