摘要

Beating off cheap grain imports is the new focus in France, leading to a need to reduce costs of production. Meanwhile, new regulations on pesticide mixes could impact on growers' ability to tackle pests and diseases. Growing wheat is an international business. That's the conclusion of an on-going study into the costs of wheat production around the world being carried out by the French research institute, ARVALIS. So seriously are they taking it, that the institute has a team of 'spies' around the globe. "Wehave MSc students working in Canada, the US, Argentina, Russia, the Ukraine, Romania, Australia, Poland and Hungary," says the ARVALIS' Damien Hanus. "They're gathering information on costs of production by liaising with local experts and interviewing growers in those countries."
