Increasing production to feed a growing world population may push environmental protection into second place for many people.But faced with diminishing natural resources, rising costs and demands for retailers and consumers alike, the importance of farming more productively and in an eco-friendly way has never been more equal.For Alastair Leake, head of the Allerton Project, which researches the effects of different farming practices on wildlife and the environment, the challenge the industry needs to tackle is how to bring farming and biodiversity back together.
