The professional practice of veterinarians, especially in the field of animal agriculture, is structurally characterized by various normative expectations and conflicting interests. These ambivalences can result in ethical conflicts and professional dilemmas. In order to provide normative orientation, a code of ethics was adopted for German veterinary medicine in 2015. It contains central principles of veterinary practice, and is thus a form of professional ethics.
