This study encompassed the three British species of the gall midges belonging to the genus Semudobia (viz S. betulae, S. tarda and S. skuhravae ) that induce galls in the female catkins of various birches (Betula spp.) (see Plate 4). Although these galls and their inhabitants have continued to be of interest, the study was conducted during the period 2011 -2015. Some outcomes of the study have been reported earlier (Leach, 2011,2013,2014 and Leach & Redfern, 2012).
