摘要

Emilia Romagna is the most important area in northern Italy for stone fruit production. In 1982, plum pox potyvirus (PPV) was discovered in a 6 year-old apricot orchard, cv. Precoce Cremonini. The following year the disease was detected in 2 plum orchards, cultivars Ruth Gerstetter and Bluefre, and in 2 nurseries. Between 1982 and 1993, surveys based on visual inspection and ELISA were carried out on plum, apricot and peach from nurseries, orchards and experimental fields to enforce an eradicationprogramme for PPV. The disease was detected in 4 commercial apricot and 10 plum orchards with infection rates varying from 17 to 95%, in 3 plum nurseries with levels of <20% and in experimental fields set up with material from other regions or imported.All infected trees were eliminated. The disease was not detected in peach. Over the 12-year period the natural spread of PPV to nearby orchards was observed only once in a 6 year-old plum orchard.
