摘要

Sometimes the ability of management and cooperative institutions has not been able to achieve member’s welfare. The aim of the study was to identify whether cooperatives in the districts in West Sumatra-Indonesia has an impact on the welfare of its members and how policy recommendationswould give optimal impact to the cooperative members through increased management and institutional capabilities of cooperatives. This study used primary data through questionnaires and in-depth interviews of key informants and cooperative board in the District in West Sumatra in 2013. Datawere analyzed using qualitative descriptive technique. The result showed that the impact on members welfare are still not good, especially for members of cooperatives in the district when compared to cities in West Sumatra. This condition requires a strong efforts to improve management andinstitutional capacity of cooperatives to generate the value added and improve the common welfare of its members.
