Electronic School Books Dissemination Application for Batam Hinterland Schools

Education is a basic right of every Indonesian citizen. The Ministry of Education and Culture held an Electronic School Book program as one way to spread access to cheap educational facilities for all Indonesian students. The government has transferred the copyrights of 1220 titlesof elementary, junior high school and vocational education to be reproduced, copied, distributed, traded by any party, and available for accessed/downloaded online through the page: http://bse.kemdikbud.go.id .However, for hinterland areas, especially Batam hinterland, the utilization of this electronic book is not as it should be. Utilization has not been maximized due to lack of knowledge in the electronic books and information technology facilities available in schools. In addition, electricityand Internet access are less accessible there. Therefore, this research attempts to develop an application to ease electronic school book dissemination to Batam hinterland schools. The application must comply with facilities, infrastructure and readiness of human resources in Batam hinterland.In the end, it is expected that all Batam area can enjoy the quality of good education to improve the quality of human resources in hinterland Batam. A web-based application called HintBook has been built to realize that goal. This application puts forward a clean look for easy usage for noviceusers and responsive to resources accessing it. The next stage of this research is to evaluate the usability of the application after being deployed in hinterland schools.
