The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia has received AUD $70 400 (USD $65 000) in funding to develop its Membrane Distillation method of desalination. The funding was provided through the Australian Governments' Commercializing Emerging Technologies (COMET) programme. Membrane Distillation involves a membrane consisting of an extruded alumina oxide substrate that is coated with a thin layer of silica using a dip process. It is this dip process that the University owned UniQuest, through its spin out company Ceramipore Pty Ltd., is developing.
