摘要

Cross Language Information Retrieval systems employ heuristics to match results to user queries in user native language. Correctness of retrieved results cannot be formally proven, but must be evaluated through human assessment. The acceptance and use of a Cross Language Information Retrieval system can be influenced by different factors. The objective of this research is to examine the factors that have an impact on user's perceptions about the use and acceptance of Cross Language Information Retrieval (CLIR) system. In this research, the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) was used as a primary model to evaluate the system. The data, collected from students, was used to test the hypothesized research model. A data analysis was performed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results of the analysis have revealed that the actual use of CLIR system depends on two main factors: behavioural intentions and attitudes toward using Cross Language Information Retrieval system. Perceived usefulness was found as the strongest and the most important predictor of attitudes toward using the Cross Language Information Retrieval system. This research work makes several contributions to the reliable and efficient measurement of the behavior and effectiveness of cross language information retrieval systems.
