Raising the permanent adhesion of coatings on resinous wood by APPCVD promotion

摘要

Some resinous woods are preferred for outdoor use due to their durability and long-term stability. Nevertheless, resinous woods are known to generate trouble with coating adhesion after a certain time in outdoor use, resulting in coating detachment and/or microbial infestation. To overcome this problem, the application of atmospheric pressure plasma chemical vapour deposition (APPCVD) as primer - instead of a commercially available impregnation agent - was established to raise the permanent adhesion of a subsequent applied functional coating, such as glaze or lacquer. Results regarding blue stain protection and long-term stability of the resinous woods larch, Douglas fir, and Scots pine protected by an APPCVD primer and a subsequent layer of glaze/lacquer are discussed. This is also done in comparison to a state-of-the-art protection.
