In response to a suggestion received from the ISR readership, we are publishing a series of articles devoted to the basics of ropeway engineering, which Professor Josef Nejez has written for those readers who have no relevant engineering background. IN THIS YEAR'S first two English-language issues of ISR, we provided an overview of the various ropeway systems. This article deals with the components and groups of components of which a ropeway consists. It may seem trivial at first sight to list the components of a ropeway installation and to group them together in some cases, but that constitutes a basis for the technical and legal provisions relating to the planning, construction and operation of a ropeway.
