Nurseries are the cornerstone of nearly all afforestation programme and in large determine short and long term reforestation success. Technology for growing seedlings in containers is well advanced. The demand for containers immensely increased with implementation of extensive plantation programmes in the country. Use of most of these containers such as polybags is restricted due to their size, delicate nature and increased the cost of seedling production. The planting stock produced from the polybags often found to develop root coiling, takes more time for establishment, more causality replacement and the resultant lesser growth and less productivity of the plantation.
