In a time of citizen journalism, a 24-hour media cycle, a revolving door for political leadership and increasing scepticism around big business and government, how can anyone know what to objectively believe? In agriculture, what to believe and what not to has never been more confusing. This is not to say we don't have good leaders across Australian agriculture; in fact, I'd argue we have some of the best in the world. Yet the battle between spin and fact continues to put our primary industries in aprecarious position. This paper looks at how policy-makers can change the tide and use facts rather than spin to set a long-term, sustainable path forward - and in doing so, tell the story that showcases the very best of Australian agriculture.
